Why HappinessNg?

With a population of over 200 million, Nigeria has fewer than 1,000 registered psychiatrists to support its people.

This critical shortage leaves millions without access to adequate mental health care.

In 2016, UNICEF reported that one in six young Nigerians aged 15 to 24 struggles with mental health challenges such as anxiety, stress, and depression. Globally, nearly 800,000 people die by suicide each year, with Nigeria’s suicide rate at 6.11 per 100,000 people.

Despite these alarming statistics, Nigeria’s mental health system remains underdeveloped, unable to meet the growing needs of its youth. This lack of support often leads to prolonged mental health challenges and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

HappinessNg is bridging the gap by providing culturally sensitive mental health support, raising awareness, and tackling the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Our mission is to empower Nigerian youth to manage and overcome challenges like anxiety, stress, and depression, preventing these issues from escalating into more severe outcomes, including suicide.

Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with a depressed mood, decreased energy, loss of interest, disturbed sleep and appetite, low self-esteem, poor concentration in carrying out daily activities, and guilt feelings. Depression is a public health concern with a prevalence rate of 3.9%; approximately 7 million Nigerians are suffering it.

Who We Are

HappinessNg is a mental health and well-being organization providing culturally relevant mental health support to Nigerian youth.
We tackle local barriers and stigma that prevent young people from seeking help, while offering safe spaces to access professional counseling and support.
Our focus is on prevention and early intervention to promote healthier futures.

Our Goal

Our Goal is for every (young) person to feel inspired to LIVE FULLY, understand how to handle negative emotions, experiences, and feelings, and overcome depression, anxiety, and suicide.

Our Mission is to address and curb the underlying factors fueling the upsurge of anxiety, depression, and suicide amongst young people, in line with Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
